[Wajkewaje News] In the long history of the development of smart phones, the number of camera pixels is constantly rising, from the previous hundreds of thousands to more than 100 million today, and the photos taken with mobile phones are becoming more and more clear. Currently, both Samsung and Xiaomi have released phones with 108-megapixel cameras, such as the Samsung S20 Ultra

However, Samsung does not seem to be satisfied with the 108 million pixel sensor, because the latest news said that Samsung plans to launch a 600 million pixel camera sensor in the future.

A few days ago, Yongin Park, the head of the Samsung sensor business team and executive vice president, disclosed that the resolution limit of the human eye is about 500 million pixels, and what Samsung has to do is to break through the limit of the human eye. However, at present, no matter the camera or mobile phone industry, the number of pixels of the sensor is mostly 12 million pixels or 40 million pixels, so the industry still has a long way to go before it matches the capabilities of the human eye. Nevertheless, Samsung still plans to develop camera sensors with up to 600 million pixels. Currently, the most popular use cases for high-pixel-count sensors are in the field of smartphones, such as the aforementioned 108 million pixel phones from Samsung and Xiaomi.

However, Samsung said that industries such as self-driving cars, drones and other IoT devices also have the same demand for high-pixel camera sensors. Therefore, the 600 million pixel camera sensor it developed may not be the first to be used in smart phones, but other devices such as smart cars.
